In terms of install prep, here’s our preferred method:

  1. Set a standard 120v outlet, controlled by a switch. Add more than one outlets to the same switch if you want.
  2. Do your best to hide the outlets as much as is possible (i.e., putting inside or on top of a cabinet upper).
  3. Then cut, link, & adhere your light strips to their desired place, typically an indirect site (like under a cab, behind a mirror, or in a ceiling rib).
  4. Connect wires from LED strips to a single controller that connects to a transformer.
  5. Now plug your transformer into that concealed switched outlet (see step 1 & 2).
  6. Switch the outlet ON, and SHOWTIME!
  7. Control the action with the  wireless remote. For even more color options and timer capabilities, use a mobile device app, like WeMo.

Air Purification for HVAC: Guardian REME

The future of indoor Air Purification fits nicely inside your typical HVAC equiptment. It is called the Guardian Air REME.

I used to think standard UV lights were the way to go, but after hearing reports back from my HVAC technicians about gaskets and filters that were getting eaten up by the intensity of the UV light, not to mention some motors getting overheated, I have now changed my stance.

Now a days my recommendation for combating indoor air pollutants that can build up in HVAC equipment and subsequently your home or workplace, is this Guardian Air REME.

Cost of install and operation averages about $250 per year, or about 75 cents per day. The technology is an Advanced Oxidising Plasma that has been proven to be completely safe by various testing agencies, and has show numerous abilities to combat sick building syndrome caused by bacteria, mold, particulate, viruses, and VOC’s.

Electromagnetic Fields

Tip: Don’t place your bed against an exterior wall that has an electrical service panel on adjacent side, as this could increase your exposure to harmful electromagnetic fields. Instead put a painting/piece of furniture like dresser/cabinet on that wall.

Artisan Tile…Yes Please!!

So I REALLY love modern-rustic design. Tile of Spain’s new line of distressed wood tiles completely blew my mind. These tiles are uber sustainable, and can be used in places that might not be ideal for wood(due to increased levels of moisture)like a kitchen or bathroom. Check out their website for more amazing artisan tile options! This floor pictured below, inspired by graffiti is my absolute fave!!!

"Common Sense" Design Elements- Exteriors

Design elements are huge when it comes to increasing a buildings efficiency. For a few pointers, take a look at this ad we ran locally in Austin Fit Magazine. And this is just the exterior… My personal favorite are big overhangs(4′ minimum). Thanks Bioloom Design for your help with this!!
